OUR HISTORY AND PRINCIPLES
The Moro people are the Muslim national minority with 13 ethno-linguistic tribes and 10-14% of the total Filipino population.
Moro people suffer the daily worsening condition of oppression and exploitation, the curtailment of their democratic rights and the heightening of state terrorism and aggression against their legitimate struggle for social justice, right to selfdetermination and peace.
On February 27, 2006, human rights advocates -- individuals, groups and organizations -- from different regions across Mindanao gathered in Cotabato City and founded KAWAGIB1 Alliance for the Advancement of Moro Human Rights. Kawagib asserts that the Moro people have the inalienable right to life, liberty, security of person and fundamental freedoms of ideas, beliefs, expression and assembly, as well as from want and fear.
Kawagib is working for the advancement of human rights of the Moro people and their struggle for social justice, right to self-determination and peace based on justice.
As an alliance, Kawagib also promotes the value of collective and organized defense and protection of the Moro people’s rights and welfare.
